According to Sahara Reporters, Ndileka Mandela, granddaughter of the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela recently blamed South Africa for underestimating Nigeria’s role in the liberation of her country in 1994.
The popular social activist revealed that both African countries should come together and unite to rewrite their history of struggle and freedom from colonialists, for the coming generation to understand and appreciate.
Recall that Nigeria was one of the foremost supporters of the anti-apartheid movement during the apartheid era in South Africa. According to reports, the Nigerian government issued more than 300 passports to South Africans seeking to travel abroad.
How Mandela Granddaughter’s Statement About Nigeria And S/Africa Shows Why Africa Should Be United
First, during the apartheid era, Nigeria as well as some other African countries were all in one voice to ensure South Africa gain freedom. Alone, it would have been an exercise in futility had South Africa been left alone to fight for her freedom.
This goes further to show that as a continent with developing nations if we can shun any form of bias, sentiment, or hatred, we can assist each other to achieve a whole lot for the African continent.
I hope this message from Ndileka Mandela sinks into the minds of every South African. Nigerians living in your country are peaceful people, who should be appreciated for contributing to the growth of your economy. She also stressed the need for Africa to allow peace and unity to reign, as it will move the continent forwarding all ramifications.
