An ex-President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has condemned the coup d’etat in Guinea.
In an interview with BBC monitored by African Entertainment, she indicated that the manner in which deposed President Alpha Condé was treated was not the best.
She stated that “He [Alpha Condé] was not properly dressed and for somebody who has served his country for so many years, he was put in a very unsettling position.”
According to her, the coup trend in West Africa was “worrying”, attributing it to the “changing ways. ”
She therefore asked governments to “ensure their institutions are consistent with the national agenda”.
Madam Sirleaf, however, expressed confidence in Ecowas to resolve the situation in Guinea.
“I’m sure that Ecowas, which has successfully responded adequately to similar crisis will do so in keeping with the constitution and the rule of law in Guinea,” according to her.
