The Dagomba Chief at Ejura in the Ashanti Region of Ghana has told the committee investigating the shooting incident not to disgrace President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. The chief who could not be at the committee hearing physically sent his linguist, Abdul Wahab Alhassan to represent him.
Chronicles of events unfolding at the committee have revealed that a relative of the Chief was also shot on the day. The relative of the chief Muntala Mohammed had left the presence of the chief to buy something outside on the day of the incident. After ten minutes, information came through that he has been shot dead.
When they got to the hospital, his lifeless body was lying there and the chief ordered his burial immediately. He instructed them to bathe him and brought out a white cloth to be used to cover him. He prayed to Allah and asked his subordinates to take him to the cemetery. The chief however refused to follow them to the cemetery.
The Chief is unhappy about the whole brouhaha and sent advice through his linguist to the committee after testifying. He indicated that the chief is expecting the committee to do excellent work and bring the killers of his relative and the other to book. Such a move will go a long way to bring some form of relief to the residents at Ejura and the country.
His call is coming at the background of several outcries from the public who have indicated that committees set over the years to probe into similar issues yielded no positive results. He told the Committee not to disgrace the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo through their investigations. “Don’t disgrace the president, that is all that the Chief wants from you”. He indicated.
The simple message being sent by the chief is that most people are doubting if the committee will be able to provide a positive result after their sitting. The President through the Interior Ministry also has trust in the committee to bring a conclusion to the matter. If they are unable to produce a proper recommendation that will calm nerves, the President, the Interior Minister, and the entire country will be disgraced. Members of the committee on the other hand have pledged to ensure their work brings positive results. Until then let us all wait for the final report of the committee.
