The National Democratic Congress has successfully organized it’s much talked about march for justice demonstration. Some leading members of the Party including General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketsia, George Opare Addo, and Peter Otukonor were present. The National Chairman of the party, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofu was at the demonstration grounds to donate some nose masks to help the day. Other Executives were also present.
The expectations of many were that the 2020 flag bearer of the party, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, and his vice-presidential candidate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang could have been there to support the youth wing to march for justice. After several hours of gathering and demonstrating, the presence of Mr. John Dramani Mahama was not felt. A look through the demonstrators was not anyone who even looks like Mr. John Dramani Mahama.
The development has raised several public outcries with many wondering why he did not show his face. Some people allege that Mr. John Dramani Mahama is not in total support of the demonstration and that might have caused his absence. Others have argued that he was absent due to the coronavirus protocols that were likely to be flouted.
But an explanation has been provided by the Ningo Prampram constituency Member of Parliament Mr. Sam George. According to him, John Dramani Mahama cannot be part of every gathering of the National Democratic Congress and his absence was understandable. He again added that John Dramani Mahama was hooked up in another equally important assignment and that caused his absence. He was however unable to reveal the meeting that got Mr. John Dramani Mahama occupied.
But this would have been an advantage for Mr. John Dramani Mahama if indeed he has the ambition to lead the party in the 2024 election. His presence would have offered him the opportunity to familiarize himself with the upcoming youth of the party and that would have been an advantage in the next presidential primaries of the party.
