Asante Kotoko head coach Mariano Barreto has been hit with a two-match ban and a GHC3, 000 fine by the Ghana Football Association for misconduct.
The Portuguese was charged for a breach of Article 38(8) (c) and 34(6) (d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019 in respect of violations of the Associations Regulations.
After the Porcupine Warriors 1-0 victory over Legon Cities on May 1, Barreto made allegations against the referees by stating that his side played 11 against 15.
Also, coach Barreto made verbal offensive statements about the performance of the referees by stating that the referee only makes mistakes against Kotoko, a statement made without proof.
He pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Disciplinary Committee saying; “his comments were misconstrued.” But, DC were convinced.
Thus, Barreto will serve a two-match touchline ban, meaning he will miss Kotoko’s remaining league games.
The Porcupine Warriors may well have lost the league to rivals Hearts of Oak after picking up just one point in their last two games.
