The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has revealed that it is still looking for more bodies in order to be certain about the number of deaths associated with last week’s floods in Kumasi, MyNewsGh.com reports.
“Actually, since we haven’t recovered the bodies, we can’t ascertain, we can’t confirm the number of bodies”, Ashanti Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyere clarified in an interview in response to claims that three persons died.
Reports were that several properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis were destroyed as a result of the heavy downpour leading to deaths including a toddler and a seventy-year-old lady.
Speaking to the development, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyere revealed that NADMO is still on an assessment of the extent of damage caused by the floods which claimed a life but that they keep receiving conflicting reports
“We’ve got information of one of our victims, Bernard Sapem 70 years who just move from Accra to Kumasi three days ago and they live around Soko bridge. The information was that when it started raining, he tried to cross a certain bridge unfortunately he slipped and fell into the bridge”, he said.
