The Asante Kotoko club has done everything possible to get the best out of the players they bought with huge amount of money. But the contractual issues is the problem they need to think about it.
If a player is good and age is on his side then he must be given a well improved contract which probably can be a long term deal. Looking at Kotoko’s best player this season in the shape of Kwame Poku who was signed by USM Algiers from Algeria. The Algerians put in money to sign the player for four and a half year deal.
Moreover, the following player’s are all Kotoko well proven team players Andy Kumi, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Fabio Gama et al none of them is beyond three years contract either below or exact. But as we are saying this there is a lot of teams that sign players for three years but not above.
On the contrary, we are not focusing on the Porcupine Warriors alone but we are switching to the camp of Accra Hearts of Oak SC. They are the continental club masters and need to be doing something more influencial.
The club has not done most of the things they needs to get in other to make them great. We were talking of player contract but we can’t omit Hearts of Oak. They are the pacesetters for what ever is happening to league. In signing a player to the professional level to play in the league, they sign just two to three years contract not extending it to 4-5 years to change the idea of signing players.
Before the league started Hearts signed the Niger international (Mamane Lawali) for 3 years. Now that the player is injured and need some treatment but already he has been out of the for game for almost a month now.
So this season will end with him not playing enough and jelling with the team. The same short term contract applies to Caleb Amankwah with a two years and Salifu Ibrahim with a three years. They need to recorrect the wrongs by adding some good years to the hard and versatile players.
Meanwhile, these are all teams that have to put their feet down and make sure that, they will spend and forget being skeptical when it comes to player deals. The Ghanaian giants can not do so because they lack funds and ready to sell as soon as the player is needed by any other clubs.
