Communications and Digitization Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has advised cyber fraud and ‘sakawa’ boys to take advantage of Twitter headquarters establishment in Ghana.
Social media platform, Twitter announced its presence in Africa with its headquarters to be situated in Ghana, its founder, Jack Dorsey disclosed.
Making the disclosure via Twitter on April 12, Jack Dorsey wrote; “Twitter is now present on the continent. Thank you Ghana and @NAkufoAddo.”
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo welcomed the good news.
In a virtual meeting with the Twitter founder, the President said; “The choice of Ghana as HQ for Twitter’s Africa operations is EXCELLENT news. Gov’t and Ghanaians welcome very much this announcement and the confidence reposed in our country.
“As I indicated to @jack in our virtual meeting of 7th April 2021, this is the start of a beautiful partnership between Twitter and Ghana, which is critical for the development of Ghana’s hugely important tech sector. These are exciting times to be in, and to do business in Ghana.”
Addressing the issue on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful stated that the Twitter move will create more jobs for the youth.
She urged the youth to acquire and upgrade their computer skills in order to qualify for employment saying “for me, it will be a big waste if Ghana doesn’t benefit from it.”
To the cyber fraud and sakawa group, the Minister advised; “Take advantage of this opportunity and acquire more skills and you will know this will clean up your basic knowledge and help you to do something different.”
