Ghana’s Black Stars crowned qualification to the 2022 AFCON tournament with an impressive 3-1 win over Sao Tome and Principe.
Goals from Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew and Baba Rahman ensured Ghana finished the qualifying series on top of group C.
While the extremely dominant Stars battered Sao Tome into submission in the first half, it was still a less than ideal performance from the Stars.
Missed chances, wasted possession and over-elaboration was a feature of the Ghanaians’ play throughout Sunday’s match.
Kudus Mohammed had another impressive game for the Black Stars, creating the first two goals but even he was guilty of holding onto the ball a little too long at times.
Thomas Partey was at fault for a few lapse passes while Jordan Ayew and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt missed a sitter of his own.
Razak Abalora had a moment to forget as his moment of madness cost the Black Stars a clean sheet and led to a few minutes of shakiness in the Stars’ defence.
But they got the job done; three goals, two in the first on a pitch that was probably a major factor in the fact that it wasn’t more than three goals.
It’s now onto the World Cup Qualifiers and the AFCON, where C.K Akonnor and his Black Stars squad will be hoping the performances are much better than we saw in the qualifiers.
