Controversial Marriage Counselor, Counselor Lutterodt says the laws of Ghana do not recognise dating or mere ‘boyfriend, girlfriend’ relationships.
He noted that most of the spousal abuses reported are not from married couples but mere relationships, saying that the laws does not recognise mere relationships in this country.
“Under our law, it is stated clearly that ‘we will not give what is meant for spousalship for concubinage’, which means that we do not have laws covering those who are just dating, dating is illegal,” he said.
He added that,” When the issue of dating comes, we don’t use spousal law, we use right to live, human right Article 18.”
Counselor Lutterodt made the comments on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie, with host Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu whiles reacting to the recent spousal abuse cases.
First in the Volta Region, a Deputy Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Philip Caezar Kumah, allegedly beat his girlfriend to death at Akatsi North.
Just on Monday, 25-year-old lady, Harriet Kafui Ahiati, was also murdered under bizarre circumstances by her boyfriend over cheating allegations in Ho.
Speaking to the issue, Counselor Lutterodt attributed bad parenting to the cause of rise in spousal abuse cases.
He also noted that lack of proper anger management from parenting has contributed to such issues.
“Management of anger is not by prayer, because there are men of God who have been angry before, there were people who were very angry and committed suicide so speaking about anger is a professional thing that needs to be done,” he said.
He pointed punishment as a tool to manage anger.
Counselor Lutterodt urged people who find themselves in such situations to manage their thoughts, feelings and their actions, adding that cheating allegations could be mere suspicions.
“We can’t cure anger, we need to manage it. You have not married the girl, but you are sleeping with her, If you hear someone is also sleeping with her why abuse her. If you think your wife is cheating and you cannot take it, let her go, do not suspect someone and kill her” he added.
He also urged the media to educate the public on such cases and address issues of relationships as the fourth arm of government.
He added that,”We have to stop lying on radio and TV and speak the truth, especially those who are believers who ears the truth might hurt people.
The bible says and you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free, not in prayer but the truth.”
