The police in Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of Central Region have arrested four hoodlums believed to have disrupted the ongoing voters’ registration exercise.
This compelled the officials of the Electoral Commission to flee the scene for their lives
Eyewitness said the men numbering about 15 arrived at the Step-in-Christ registration center and try to sack people from the queue.
This resulted in a scuffle and gun shot fired and three motor bikes burnt.
An eyewitness said “we were doing the registration for the ID card and all of a sudden there was a car with a body guard that is Hawa Koomson’s body guard. They were saying that anybody who is not in the queue should move away.”
He added “there was a motor bike there and the body guard asked the motor bike owner to take it out of the way, but the guy started spraying pepper and there were a lot of people coughing and running away.”
Meanwhile, the Kasoa Divisional Commander, Superintend Charles Kosonoh says one gun has been seized and investigations commenced.
“We arrested four people in connection with the burnt motorbikes. We ask the EC officials to continue the registration but ask for further directives form their office.”
