The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has ‘effectively’ reduced Ashanti regional figures for Phase 1, batch 1 from 423,802 to 399,507 in the ongoing voters registration exercise.
In an interview with Osei Bonsu (OB) on Accra-based Asempa FM monitored by MyNewsGh, Onasis Kobby, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC declared that the party is effectively studying the new figures as the error is one that cannot be pardoned.
He continued that, despite the ‘humiliation’, ‘terror’ and ‘vituperative attacks’ they have had to endured from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the EC seems to be compounding the challenges with a mortal mistake that can plunge the country into crisis.
“This is an inexcusable mistake and it has security implications. We have enjoyed peace under Kufuor, same under Mills and President Mahama. They cannot plunge us into chaos under President Akufo-Addo under him we have witnessed many violent incidents.
We have had to endure humiliation, terror and vituperative attacks from the NPP here and the EC seems to be compounding the challenges with a mortal mistake that can plunge the country into crisis. We won’t sit and watch on for this to happen here.” Onasis said on ‘Ekosiisen’.
However, the Ashanti regional EC Chair, Mr. Bannor Bio in a media interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM acknowledge the existence of the disparity and indicated that, the current figures are provisional data.
He assured that the provisional figures have no direct consequences on the final figures which would be automatically generated by the registration machines after their exercise.
“The NDC regional secretary, Kwame Zu, personally called me and l explained everything to him on phone so I’m surprised they continue to see it as a big case.”
“All tabulated figures remain provisional and have no direct consequences on the final figures which would be automatically generated by the registration machines after the exercise.” Mr. Bannor Bio noted.
