A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has predicted that the campaign ahead of the 2020 election will be nasty and riddled with lies.
His prediction comes on the back of a video that has gone viral on several social media platforms and attributed to him and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.
In the said video, a number of young men are seen packing notes huge sums of GHC 100 and GHC 200 in a building. The monies have been attributed to the NPP stalwart and the Minister of Finance.
But reacting to the video circulating on social media, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko noted that there’s an agenda to smear his personality and that of other people in the NPP ahead of the election to create disaffection for the Party in a nasty campaign by their opponents.
He said “It looks like this is going to be one very nasty campaign season: similar to, if not worse than, what we saw in 2008 when NDC was again in opposition.
I’ve seen videos of plenty 200 and 100 Cedi notes being packed in what clearly looks like a reception of an office building, with a reception desk!
1. The first blatant lie was that the cash was secretly recorded in the house of the Minister for National Security.
2. The next big lie put on Facebook and amplified by an NDC group was that the cash was delivered to the house of “Gabby Okyere Darko, nephew to the President.”
3. Lastly, the “ownership” lie has passed on to the Finance Minister’s house.
The Lawyer indicated that as a result, he has reported the issue to the security agencies because the lies has made his home a target for armed robbers
“I have been pushed, for fear of this dangerous lie making my family home a target for armed robbers, to report this matter to the security authorities. In the name of partisan politics we lie to put people’s lives in harms way.”
