Member of Parliament(MP) for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has tipped his colleague legislator, Kobina Tahir Hammond to maintain his candidacy after the much anticipated Parliamentary Primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency on Saturday, June 20, 2020.
The victory, he says, would put the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako a.k.a Chairman Wontumi who is scheming to unseat the incumbent by employing schemes and machinations to favour Samuel Binfoh Dakwa, Mr Hammond’s sole contender to shame.
“I’m in a good mood because I went to Hon KT Hammond’s constituency and contrary to the hullabaloo that he will lose his seat; he is firmly on the ground. He has been nicknamed ‘SHOW BOY’ and I think he has done a lot of work at Adansi Asokwa and you could clearly see that it is a done deal; he’s winning”, Ken Agyapong said on his Net 2 TV in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
He added that, “I’m advising my friend Wontumi not to go and disgrace himself by pumping money into the other candidate’s bid. KT Hammond is going to win. I have seen it myself and these are genuine feelings from the people”.
The primaries at Adansi Asokwa Constituency promises to be one of the keenly contested as greenhorn Samuel Binfoh Dakwa sets his eyes on the seat with backing from the Ashanti Regional Chairman, the Ashanti Regional Youth Wing and a section of the constituency executives to end the unbeaten run of incumbent KT Hammond who is seeking a sixth term.
There has been an unending rift between Bernard Antwi Boasiako and KT Hammond for some years now, fueling the former’s penchant to see the long serving legislator out of Parliament by any means possible.
MyNewsGh.com has gathered that the two engaged in a near fisticuff at a function in Kumasi where both the President and the Vice President were in attendance, when in a private conversation, the Party Chairman misconstrued the word “JEOPARDISE” which was used by Mr KT Hammond as an insult, ending the hitherto hearty relationship between the two.
KT Hammond, like Kennedy Agyapong are only junior to the Leader and MP for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu on the side of the Majority in Parliament, both entering after winning elections in the December 2000 polls; he served as Deputy Minister of Energy in the erstwhile administration of President J.A. Kufour.
Checks by MyNewsGh.com in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency put KT Hammond ahead of his sole contender, Samuel Binfoh Dakwa who is seen by the delegates as a novice and unknown for any rigorous party activities prior to his decision to run for the primaries.
The visit by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to the constituency has also improved KT Hammond’s approval ratings and popularity amongst the general electorate, some of whom have vowed to vote “skirt and blouse” in the general elections should the incumbent MP not win the upcoming primaries.
