The nation Ghana appears to be battling another pandemic aside the global COVID-19 pandemic as supporters loyal to the National Chairman of the PNC Bernard Mornah have vowed to resist political intimidation.
The brouhaha over the decision by the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections keep heightening with the government and top elements in the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) fully supporting the Electoral Commission(EC).
Many other political parties and civil society organisations such as the PNC, NDC, APC, CODEO, IMANI have all described as wasteful and illogical, the EC’s plans to conduct a mass voter registration in these unprecedented times of COVID-19 pandemic.
While at it, many Ghanaians have over the week taken to social media, their disappointments over what they’ve described as “State Sponsored Intimidating tactics” through the Criminal Investigative Department(CID) of the Ghana Police Services.
The Ghana Police Service in a letter dated 28th May, 2020 and signed by its Deputy Commissioner of Police Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II, invited the outspoken National Chairman of the People’s National Convention Comrade Bernard Mornah to appear before them on 2nd June, 2020 for threatening to resist the compilation of the new voters register.
Commenting on this development in a Facebook post, the vociferous Deputy National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Chief Hamilton Biney Nixon described as unfortunate plans by the government to intimate opposing views.
He assured Mr Mornah of the tacit support of the National Democratic Congress and called on all Ghanaians to rise and defend Ghana’s enviable democracy.
“I stand with you Comrade Bernard Ambataayala Mornah, we must all rise up and defend our young democracy!”, he stated.
