National Youth Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) Henry Nana Boakye has charged the youth of the party to go all out to mobilise and sensitize many more people to register in the upcoming voter registration exercise.
His call comes at the back of a contentious decision by the Electoral Commission of Ghana to compile a new voters’ register in the later part of June 2020.
Though the decision of the EC has been met with heavy criticism and opposition by the opposition National Democratic Congress, Civil Society Organisations and a section of Ghanaians, the election management body had forcefully stated its resolve to proceed with the exercise.
In a statement seen by MyNewsGh.com, the youth leader of the NPP intimated that the compilation of a new register is the first step towards the consolidation of victory for the party later in December this year.
“This is the first major step towards victory 2020 that will consolidate the government’s achievements relative to the successful implementation of far-reaching youth-focused policies like the Free SHS, Restoration of Nurses and Teacher Trainees Allowances, accelerated job creation in all sectors, Infrastructure for Youth Development, Functioning Scholarship schemes and so forth,” he wrote.
Nana Boakye further encouraged the youth to stay focused and noted that the youth wing of the party is the pivot of the machinery that would secure victory for the New Patriotic Party adding that “The youth wing can’t be distracted at this crucial time and I encourage our noble youth to stay focused, dedicated and united at all times. The EC has announced it’s readiness to commence the mass (new) registration exercise in the last week of June 2020. Our party, as it has been the tradition, will depend heavily on the youth to educate and mobilize the masses for the imminent registration exercise”.
While admonishing the youth not to let their guards down in the lead up to the voters registration exercise and elections, Nana Boakye admitted that the achievements of the Nana Addo led administration are significant but have not been satisfied all Ghanaians, a reason the party must secure another term to make up for the rest of the promises made to the people of Ghana.
“The party and government have done a lot for the rank and file of our party in the relatively short period (less than 4years) of being in power. However, in the words of President Akufo-Addo, not everyone has been and can be satisfied in the first 4years of the government but as we stay in power for long, each and everyone will have their fair share of the many transformational initiatives implemented by the government,” he said.
