Parts of the Kumasi City Mall’s ceiling caved in on Tuesday morning, leaving customers who visited the mall stranded.
Citi News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, reported that the exit points of the mall were blocked right after the incident occurred.
Hafiz was however quick to add that business activities at the facility resumed after an intervention by officials of the National Disaster Management Organization and the Fire Service.
Ashanti Regional NADMO Coordinator, Kwabena Nsenkyire, who spoke to Citi News said the incident was a minor problem.
“It is not a serious issue. It is just a minor thing. We will make sure we fix everything by close of day.”
Accra Mall ceiling collapse
A similar incident happened at Accra Mall on Thursday, October 11, 2018, when parts of the ceiling of the Electronics hub shop caved in and injured three people.
According to an eyewitness, the three persons were directly under the area that caved in.
President Nana Akufo-Addo subsequently expressed his sympathies to victims, and also called on Ghanaians to work together to improve maintenance culture to forestall such accidents from recurring.
