The Ofaakor District Police Command have arrested Michael Asiamah 24-year-old man popularly known as “Gaza,” who allegedly kidnapped two children at Congo Villa, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
According to DSP Christopher Darkey, the Ofaakor District Police Commander, on October 30, 2018, Salamatu Iddrisu, mother of the two children, reported an incident of kidnapping to the police.
Speaking to Citi News on the issue, DSP Christopher Darkey, explained that Michael Asiamah, the kidnapper, visited Salamatu Iddrisu at Congo Villa, a suburb of Kasoa and engaged her two children in a game as a decoy to kidnap them.
DSP Christopher Darkey noted that after few hours, the children were nowhere to be found including Michael Asiamah, and this prompted Salamtu to report the incident to the Police.
Various calls to Michael Asiamah’s phone to ascertain the whereabouts of the two children proved futile, the Ofaakor District Commander noted.
According to the Police Commander, Michael Asiamah kidnapped the children and demanded that Salamatu pays an amount of 3,000 GHC before releasing the kids.
Salamatu in a bid to get her children back from the kidnapper made an initial payment of 1,500.
“After Salamatu made the initial payment of 1,500, he released one of the children,” DSP Darkey added.
“He abandoned one of the children at the Tema roundabout, and with the help of a good Samaritan, the boy was taken to the Ashaiman Police Station” the Ofaakor Commander explained.
But intelligence information on the part of the Ofaakor District Police Command led to the arrest of Michael Asiamah at his hideout in Prampram.
He would be processed to court on Thursday, DSP Christopher Darkey noted.
