Police in Kumasi are investigating a 32-year-old Mohammed Lufai for stealing dustbins meant for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) “Operation Keep The City Clean And Green”, MyNews can report.
As part of measures to keep the city clean, authorities adopted a strategy to drive environmental cleanliness and restore Kumasi to its pride as the Garden City of West Africa Dubbed ‘Operation Keep the City Green and Clean’ and the education of the public against indiscriminate disposal of waste.
Waste bins were therefore procured and placed dustbins at some vantage points within the Central Business District which saw the suspect take advantage of the situation.
Luck, however, eluded him when he was spotted by one of the street cleaners of the assembly carrying the bin to an undisclosed location and was confronted leading to his arrest.
According to Mohammed, he found the dustbin on a dumping site but checks by officials of the revealed that he stole it.
” The Woman saw Mohammed carrying the dustbin. She confronted him and the guy told him he found the Operation Keep the City Clean and Green dustbin on dumping a site. But according to our checks he removed the one in front of the racecourse and he was going to sell it. He was arrested by those around and I followed them to the Suame police station” An official of the KMA revealed.
However, Hon Alexander Kesse has warned the people of Kumasi to stop sabotaging the exercise adding that the assembly will deal with perpetrators who want the exercise to become unsuccessful.
He, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians especially people in Kumasi to change their attitude towards sanitation.
