The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has directed the District Chief Executive for the Bosomtwi District to submit a report on the state of the collapsed bridge at Adagya.
The report according to the council, should be forwarded to the Roads Ministry for immediate repair of the bridge and the road.
“The DCE is also here so I will tell him to write it and forward it to the [Regional] Minister so that we can also forward this to Roads Minister to take immediate action on this road, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Elizabeth Agyemang told the media.
This development follows the death of six persons at Adagya in the Bosomtwi District of the Ashanti Region after flood waters swept a car they were in.
The Ankonim River overflowed its banks on Thursday after the heavy rains and blocked the only access route leading residential areas.
“This shouldn’t have happened. We could have avoided it. We have to be very careful about ourselves. If you are not careful, you can die. We are aware that the roads are not good already. We are all aware,” Mrs. Agyeman said.
She also said a Regional Security Council [REGSEC] meeting will be called on the matter.
“I have to call an emergency REGSEC meeting for us to discuss what we are going to do. I cannot decide alone. We have to meet all of them and we take a decision.”
