Kwesi Nyan Amissah-Arthur, son of late former Vice President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, on Friday paid a glowing tribute to his father describing him as one who was a “hero in disguise.”
According to Kwesi Nyan, although his father achieved a lot in life, he never boasted about his accomplishments.
“…he hardly ever talked about some of his achievements to us his family. His nature meant that he never boasted about any of his achievements. Like a true superhero, he was disguised to even those who knew him best,” he said.
Kwesi Nyan made those remarks when he read a tribute at his father’s funeral service at the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra.
Amissah-Arthur passed away on June 29, 2018, after he collapsed at the Airforce Gym in Accra during a workout session.
Hundreds of Ghanaians gathered at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday to pay their last respects to the late former Vice President.
“Throughout my childhood, I was fascinated with superheroes; it took me a while to realize that I had my own personal hero. Our hero was a different type of here in the various phases of our lives. He was not your traditional superhero who flew in, saved the day and flew out. He was a constant figure, a consistent principled individual who let his actions speak to us about what was right and what was wrong.”
“Our hero was a hero to all and he was hidden in plain sight, we know our hero has gone to a better place, however it does not take away from the fact that we have lost our hero. Though we have lost our hero, his legacy remains in those of us whom he raised and trained to be principled, meticulous, diligent and independent-minded in all we do. Today I stand here and boast about my father, my firewall, my superhero, who is better than all those I used to adore as a child, Kwesi Nyan added.
The remains of Amissah-Arthur has been buried at the military cemetery at Burma Camp in Accra.
He was an exceptional father
Daughter of Amissah-Arthur, Araba Attua-Afari also in her tribute described her father as being exceptional.
“You are an exceptional father. There was a duality to you that worked perfectly for us. You pushed us to do better and delivered harsh truths in your pragmatic way,” she stated.
Matilda Amissah-Arthur rips into hypocrites in tribute to late husband
But on a day filled with grief, the late Kwesi Amissah-Arthur’s widow, Matilda Amissah-Arthur’s tribute was filled with anger at some persons in the audience who had gathered to pay final respects to the former Vice President.
In Matilda Amissah-Arthur’s tribute, she said she had been amazed by the number of people who had shown her love following the passing of her husband, but not for the right reasons.
“I asked myself, is this Ghana? Are all these people in Ghana because the maligning, the lies, the treachery, the wickedness, the deliberately changing things so that you could look better than others.”
